Salone del Mobile: Milano Awards 2017

On June 8th, 2017 the Salone del Mobile held a gala at the Triennale Teatro dell’Arte in Milan to announce the winners of the 2nd edition of the Milano Award. This year we were delighted to learn that two of our longtime partners, Flos and Foscarini, both won awards.

The Salone del Mobile devised these international awards to give further prominence to the outstanding exhibits presented during the week-long design fair held every year in April. The Milano Award is intended to recognize the value of ideas, creativity, innovation, and technology, which together contrive to make the event the world’s most acclaimed international vehicle for cutting-edge design trends and the very latest in home living. The award is presented to well-known and emerging designers, displays and products.

Meet the lamp and the booth that earned the accolades.

Filo / Andrea Anastasio / Foscarini

Milano Award for Best Product – Euroluce

Anastasio won the Milano Award “For his ability to reread tradition in a contemporary and international vein, bringing new structural meaning to the notion of decoration and personalising mass production.” –Salone del Mobile jurors.

Foscarini’s new Filo lamp collection won a Milano Award 2017

Anastasio’s Filo lamp for Foscarini deconstructs the notion of traditional lamp bodies. Separating the light source, base, decorative details, and wiring, the fixture celebrates each component’s individual characteristics. Made from porcelain, textile cable, blown glass, and varnished metal, a wide range of colours enliven the Filo lamp with multiple identities. We love how the eclectic cable is decorated with glass baubles, a detail which brings to mind a precious necklace. From watercolour tones to the transparent hues of Murano glass, this light is at home in a wide range of settings. Filo will be available in table, floor, wall or suspension versions.

Designer Andrea Anastasio is a philosopher, who turned designer after a meaningful meeting with iconic architect Ettore Sottsass. Andrea is best known for bringing together art with function, and poetry with fantasy. The Filo is coming soon to North America. Follow us for release dates.

Flos / Calvi Brambilla

Milano Award for Best Display

Flos and Calvi Brambilla won the Milano Award award for creating “A display that goes beyond the traditional concept of a trade fair stand thanks to its ability to draw visitors through the light sources as if in a narration. From the exterior to the interior, where lights, colours, materials and solids and voids play out masterfully.” –Salone del Mobile jurors.

Indeed, the Flos booth was a powerful, dynamic architecture, leading visitors through an immersive journey into the universe of Light. The itinerary unveiled, hall after hall, surprising masterpieces by internationally acclaimed designers Michael Anastassiades, Ronan & Erwan Bouroullec, Konstantin Grcic, Piero Lissoni, Barber & Osgerby, Philippe Starck, Vincent Van Duysen, and two exclusive new collaborations with talented Italian artist duo Formafantasma and Japanese renowned brand Nendo.

“For Flos, we have designed a place made up of minimalist but dynamic spaces. With their carefully curated proportions, they become sets where the new collections play the leading role.

The architecture, far from being simply a container or display space, is conceived as a metaphor for the peculiar tension in the research process that is intrinsic to the project. In various points the walls seem brought to life by a movement through which they change, dilate or open like curtains pulled by a gesture, giving the place personality and unparalleled power of expression.” Calvi Brambilla
