This year marked Interior Design‘s second annual NYCxDesign Awards presented with ICFF. At the ceremony held on May 20 at MoMA, they announced the winners and honorees for various project and product categories. At the ceremonies, Interior Design’s Editor in Chief Cindy Allen explained: “We launched the NYCxDESIGN Awards to celebrate our beloved city and showcase New York City as the centre of design. In our sophomore year, over 700 entries came from 109 design firms and 210 manufacturers with 60 international companies.” The judging panel included more than 30 design luminaries.

Several of our partners were honoured with awards that night, and we’d like to extend our heartfelt congratulations. Read on to find out who won.

Revolta by Estiluz

Revolta won the NYCxDesign award for Thin Pendant or Chandelier. Designed by Nathrang for Estiluz, Revolta was devised as an evolution of the Volta lamp, the delicate suspended arches now become iconic circles that sketch out different ensembles in the air depending on the way they are arranged. Empty planes that are optionally filled with colour when upholstered to become practical sound-absorbing panels. Customizable according to the layout of the circles, the Revolta lamp is equipped with adjustable-intensity LED technology. An elegant and graphic addition to any space.

Serena by Flos

The Serena table lamp won the NYCxDesign award for Floor or Table Light. Designed by Patricia Urquiola for Flos. At first glance, Serena appears to be in motion—it is a leaf blown by a gentle breeze, dancing through a current of wind. Inspired by the simple beauty of nature, this piece features a dynamic reflector that can be directed to obtain an intense, precisely reflected light. The structure of the lighting body reduces the LED source’s visual impact, providing the user with a level of comfort that belies the design’s superior technology. Orchid by Axo Light

Orchid was an NYCxDesign Honoree in the Floor or Table Light category. Designed by Rainer Mutsch for Axo Light, the Orchid is an elegant floor lamp composed of three diffusers. Positioned like the flowers around a stem, these diffusers provide both up and down light, making it ideal for reading and providing ambient illumination.

Bicoca by Marset

Bicoca was an NYCxDesign Honoree in the Floor or Table Light category. Designed by Christophe Mathieu for Marset, the Bicoca also won a #MetropolisLikes award. Full of character, the small table lamp is born with the optimism of brightening life and accompanying the good times, wherever you go. Made of polycarbonate, Bicoca begins with an overlay of basic geometric figures and features a tiltable shade to direct the light. A powerful magnet in the fixture’s base lets you affix it to metal surfaces, defying gravity, and an additional accessory allows it to attach to a sofa or the head of a bed to create a pleasant, relaxing atmosphere.

Boom by Stickbulb

Boom won the MYCxDesign award for Made in the Burroughs. Designed and made by Brooklyn-based Stickbulb, Boom is an expressive chandelier made with minimal elements. Cast-brass joints and linear wooden LED bulbs join to create forms of exploding light. At the center of the fixture is a singularity of cast-brass joints, elegantly curved to dramatically reflect the geometry of the fixture. Linear wooden bulbs – the essence of all Stickbulb designs – in varying lengths cantilever from the brass core, each one emitting a line of even light in a different direction. The result is an explosion of richly textured wood that casts dynamic patterns of light and shadow. The wooden component is offered in sustainably sourced maple or walnut, reclaimed heart pine, ebonized oak, or reclaimed water tower redwood and the hardware finish is polished cast brass. Come see it on display in our Toronto lighting showroom.
